Artist Hubert Duprat removed caddis fly larvae from their natural habitat and provided precious metals, beads, and pearls for the larvae to build their cases out of instead of the usual natural material. The results are pretty stunning.

I just knew that prop from Hawkwind’s last show was going to cause problems.

Need something to wash that burgerpipe down with and want a nice non-alcoholic alternative to the pork martini. May I suggest a turkey & gravy soda?
Space Future Journal reports that the first suborbital flight of SpaceShip One is scheduled for 17 December a.k.a. the 100th anniversary of the Wright brothers flight.
Keeping my fingers crossed here.
Courtesy of Jody, a day in the life of giant squid researchers.
Every so often, a large refrigerated truck pulls up to Steve O’Shea’s back door and deposits a large bag or box containing the frozen remains of some sea creature that has been found. In addition to his job as curator of the collection of marine organisms, Steve is also the guy that most fisherman know is the person who wants any giant squid that may accidentally get caught in one of their trawl nets. Some fishing boats have observers on deck who quickly bag and freeze any squid that may come on board - not an easy task when you are faced with a 200 kilogram or more mass of very unresponsive squid on the heaving deck of a working fishing boat.
Pretty fantastic show with a set-list weighed heavily on Lazer Guided Melodies and Amazing Grace tracks.

Yesterday was soup day in the Casa Drone kitchen. I’ve been craving pumpkin soup for awhile and the end results were pretty damn tasty.

Those are leeks and thinly sliced pears on top. Parsnips, leeks, gala apples, and of course pumpkin all went into it.
Coincidentally I ran across the terrific Joy Of Soup plog (soup + blog = plog) yesterday too.
There should be more shows just down the street from my apartment more often. I just uploaded a bunch of pictures and movies from both nights of All Tomorrow’s Parties down at the Queen Mary. Obvious highlights were The Stooges, Sonic Youth, The Minutemen, and Bardo Pond but really everyone I saw was terrific. If they weren’t, I just ducked home briefly.
