QC was in Irvine this afternoon and in the space of two hours watched as a small column of smoke up the toll road turned into a full-on fire – blacking out the sky.
Ironically, the main emergency management center for Orange County sits on top of the fire area at Loma Ridge. Hope there’s a contingency plan for when/if the emergency center burns down.
There’s a few more pictures on the Flickr stream. Please be careful out there folks.
Irvine in flames. Let me guess – race riots again? Mobs of angry white people storming the Romano’s Macaroni Grill, demanding 1/2 off Apple Martinis? The Chinese Campus Crusade For Christ (4C!) turns militant and starts spreading the threat of hellfire literally? Or just nature’s karmic revenge for so many acres of Park Wests & West Parks so closely forced upon one another?
Reports have it now that this fire was started by an arsonist… I can’t help but wonder if it was some deperate Fraudera Ranch resident wanting out of their ARM homeloan.
Glad to know that humanity is still sunk so low as to make jokes about the misfortunes of others. Don’t worry, it will be your turn someday to be the butt of jokes as YOUR karma closes in around YOU.
The fires in Irvine are no joke to those in harm’s way. On my daily blog is a photo taken in front of my home Monday morning showing the billowing clouds of smoke blackening the sky. Have a look:
