I know I'm breaking the Seance Law here (so spank me Steve) and 1)going totally off topic here (you knew I'd been too quiet of late didn't y'all? Come on admit it....) and #2 talking about myself but I was out fairly late last night but came home and turned on the TV to lull me to sleep. I was watching the Independent Film Channel when lo and behold I found "The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years" on. Well hell's bell's, I just had to try and stay awake for as much of that puppy as I could. It was kinda like walkin' down memory lane for me - NOT that I was a metal chick or anything (Dios mio no!), but living in Los Angeles, big hair metal bands were SOOOOOO huge in L.A. in the mid to late 80's - they literally ruled Sunset Boulevard at clubs like Gazarri's, the Roxy, the Whi skey and other scary places like the Country Club, etc. One of my roommate's good friends was the A&R guy for first CBS records and then MCA records and I just remember sitting in their living room, which was just one big mary jane haze and people like Warrant would come in and out all the time with their big hair and sleazy ways. Ewww! Neon spandex city! Anyway, so I'd totally forgotten how really gross some of these bands could be. I've never seen so many guys with SO.MUCH.FUCKING.HAIR. All teased up and UGLY! Man, and the groupies! I don't know who was scarier! The way those guys talked about those chicks! And of course, ALLLLL of these bands were gonna make it BIG - HUGE - the only band I can recall them interviewing from the part I watched last night that had already made it was Aerosmith - this interview must have been done in '87 or '88 because I remember seeing this documentary when it came out in '88 - Steven and co. looked mighty young. Faster Pussycat had about 3 out their 15 minutes of fame here in L.A. and even that was too much. So I totally passed out and couldn't finish the rest of it, but I really, really would love to know what most of those guys are doing now....still playing music.....what???? Whatever happened to this cheesy metal? (Not really counting Aerosmith here, but some of the other bands). Does it exist anywhere? It was like a whole other world. And what happened to Ricki Rachtman? SP? Remember Headbanger's Ball? I hate when I start thinking about this stuff! Denise (who is very glad all those skinny dudes in Spandex went bye bye)
