I've been playing an acoustic for years, BUT as life gets more hectic with other commitments, I usually only pull out the strum machine as infrequently as every nine weeks or so. One time I went about a half a year without playing. When I do , I usually play regularly for a week or so, mainly practicing Church songs I know and trying to learn a few more. Of Course, this means I have to "reform" the thick skin on me' poor fingertips EVERYTIME. But , I agree , the FIRST time is the REAL test! For anyone interested in getting a start, the saying, "NO PAIN, NO GAIN" is definitely applicable! d.o.(oardodo)
