Here's Julianne on the subject of new material, first in an extract from an AAE mailing list Q&A last month, and then from a message she sent the list just before Christmas.... Cheers, Derek >My question - which has probably been asked by loads of people - is >what direction is the new material going to be like? Is it going to >be picking up and continuing along the lines of Ultraviolet, a >retrospective of all 4 albums or something completely different? "Well, I don't think it's going to be UV part 2 as I think that the vocals need to be more prominent as that frustrated a lot of people when they were buried on the album. Also, I don't think it will be written with one ear on the old albums. I think we will concentrate on writing songs that have atmosphere about them but are more direct than UV songs were. I think that the songs will be a product of what has fermented inside us over the past ten years and until we write them, we shan't know what that is. We have some pieces of music that we have already written, a few months ago, and they are all quite different to each other. We are determined to try not to disappoint ourselves or you." And the message just before Christmas... "To all members of the AAE mailing list...... Just to say that it has been another amazing year and it has to be thanks to those that are still interested in what we have to give. My only disappointment has been that we never managed to get any new songs happening! There are a lot of ideas and bits of music scattered around our brains, but, we were so busy that we didn't get to complete any of them..... Sure, we could've dashed something 'new' out for the sake of it, but, we want it to be GOOD! We also have the slight problem of Marty still being in The Church and now having moved to New York, but, we'll sort something out, I promise. We HAVE to! You are not the only ones bored of hearing the same old songs time after time...! Bear with us a little while longer. Trust us. So thanks for being there, thanks for coming to the shows, for buying the CD's, for just being a good bunch really. Here's hoping you all have a good Christmas and here's to a brand new sparkly year to do all sorts of good things in.... It should be taking our breath away you know! With love, Julianne x"
