From: Kevin J. Bonham, sleepycat@eudoramail.com Subject: Church on Sacrament poll Date: 2/24/2002 3:14:04 AM To: seance@lists.no-fi.com http://cgi.zipworld.com.au/~kashum/sacrament.pl?cmd=splash The above is an Australian goth radio site which does polls (click under "voting poll" for details) of Australian and international favourite "goth/alternative" songs and bands. Those voting are generally from the Australian goth subculture and seem to have quite specialised and knowledgeable goth musical tastes. The Church seem to regularly poll well on the Australian section of this list - 5th, 4th and 4th in the band section in the last three polls, and usually with one or two songs (TUM, UTMW or Reptile) in the top 20 or so. What surprised me was that the Church song which seems to earn the most support in these polls is TUM, which really isn't all that gothy at all. I wonder whether this is due to (i) 80s revival DJs playing it in goth clubs a lot - it is practically the only Church song that gets played much in Australian goth clubs (ii) many Australian goths thinking that the cupboard is pretty bare when it comes to Australian goth acts and picking Church songs without really knowing the band that well.
