It isn't my intention to start a big brouhaha. But this is bothering me and I want to get it off my chest. Is it me, or does there seem to be this widening divide between Seance and Hotel Womb? Comments have been made that lead me to believe that some of the people who visit Hotel Womb on a regular basis are somewhat contemptuous of Seance and its members, a stance which makes me rather sad. You can kind of see why they'd feel that way, though, what with SK calling us weird or computer geeks or whatever, and comments like these from Petrina and John S's interview with Marty and Steve: MWP: And there,s the sort of a one where people talk about...themselves...and..... The Church. SK: It,s called OESeance, in America. I think that,s ?eterna.com?, is that ?eterna.com?? js: It,s now ?seance@listserv.no-fi.com? MWP: If I was gonna look at the Seance list I,d probably rather be watching The Young and the Restless. p: Is it like a soap opera? A lot of those lists can be like that. I,m only on one, but?they,re funny. MWP: Not if you don,t look at them, they,re not! p: No I suppose, but they,re there to support you, they,re there....they like your music. MWP: Yeah sure - the guy who killed John Lennon liked his music too! js: Ouch. And now it would seem that Hotel Womb is privy to information that people on Seance wouldn't get if they didn't visit Hotel Womb. I don't see why. The band and those around the band know about this list. In fact, before there was Shadow Cabinet, even, there was Seance. If there's information that's of value to fans, why not share it with all fans and not just the ones at one particular site? Or better yet, why not do so on the Church's official webpage? For the longest time, Shadow Cabinet was THE place to find out the information and we were all one glorious whole, coming together and championing the band. I miss that atmosphere that was going on around HOB and the whole Church Army and everything. This whole us and them thing is bringing me down. I like Seance and not having to remember who belongs to what "handle." So this is where I'll stay. That's just my personal preference. But why should it make any difference? I don't see why anyone should have to choose one over the other. I'm not dissing either side, but why does there even have to be sides? We're all fans, dammit. Why don't Marty and Steve like Seance? I mean, sure, some people didn't believe SK when he posted here about the guitar. But they didn't believe it was really him in Antenna, either, and he had to call someone's cell phone to prove it. And yes, there was Martygate, but I don't think that anything about Martygate warrants a comparison between members of this list and Mark David Chapman. Why can't we all just get along? ;) I always have a lot of fun with Wombers and other Seancers alike when I go to Antenna. It'd be a lot more fun without someone joking, "You're a Seancer? Oh, no, you'll have to go," even if they don't really mean anything by it.
