It is, it's just so absolutely sad.  I too have been thinking the guy's
been gone for quite a bit now.  

I was watching MSNBC the other night and Ashleigh Banfield was talking
about being a "safe" Canadian journalist over there.  I couldn't
imagine what it must be like roaming that area as an American in peril.
 Ashleigh told of proclaiming herself as being from Canada at any tense
moment and how it's gotten her and her crew out of quite a few
dangerous situations.  The mindset of the raging mobs over there ...
jeez ... she was telling of a situation that her and the crew found
themselves to be in whilst in the midst of a "death to USA "
"demonstration" ... chanting, burned effigies, all that tired old crap
... anyway, this was one of her "all's cool, I'm Canadian" occurances. 
Hey, whatever works, ya know!  Anyway, she told of one guy that in the
midst of all the fervent "kill Bush" ...

 -- a sentiment that seems somewot valid around here at times-- ;-)
 
..."death to America" ranting and raving that one or two guys ...

 --no women allowed!--

 ... strolled up to her and proclaimed their love for America and all.
This struck her kind of dumb so she asked her interpreter to query the
one guy on his reasoning ... I mean ... duh ... yr at an "Evil America"
rally and you love the USA ... HUH? ... the fuckin' guy didn't even
have an answer, or so she said. The look on Ashleigh's face thruought
this interview was priceless, she seemed so befuddled about it all.  It
must get quite surreal at times being in those particular trenches.

I just couldn't imagine being able to function in the midst of all that
hatred and utter chaos.
