From: Tara, night_of_light@yahoo.com Subject: Seance, A Fyne Olde Lyst Date: 2/18/2002 11:20:08 AM To: seance@lists.no-fi.com I've been on Seance since 1997. I spent a great deal of time lurking before I felt comfortable enough to post anything. I have to say that it's probably the mailing list I appreciate being on the most. There's another list that I sub and unsub from on a regular basis. It's almost like a car wreck that you can't look away from for long. I won't say which list it is but I will say that the list is devoted to a certain artist who's audience was once called "the long mac brigade." Every time I re-sub to this list I always wonder why I went back. There's always flaming going on, there are always people describing in vivid detail the anonymous sex that they had that weekend, people try to 'out' each other...it may be fine for some, but if you put it next to Seance it leaves a lot to be desired. I'm sure I'm not getting what truly bothers me about this list across the way I'd like to. I guess the difference is that on Seance it feels like you're dealing with people and not their pretenses or their online personas. I could be completely wrong about that. Maybe some of you pretend to be any number of things when you write to Seance, but at least you're clever enough to make it plausible! It's a pretty good thing going, this Seance stuff, I think. As I plowed through the digest of that other list which shall remain nameless rolling my eyes, I had to wonder what the members of the Church would think if their devotees had a list of a similar nature. I mean, they've made comments that they're not big fans Seance. Perhaps they need to see how truly icky other lists can be? Tara NP ~ Invisible "I can't explain what I mean.
