From: Butler, butler@comcen.com.au Subject: Close encounters of the Churchkind(long) Date: 2/16/2002 9:30:01 AM To: seance, seance@lists.no-fi.com wasn't going to post about the Tilleys gig, didnt want to sound too excited but since Tara asked so nicely I'll try my best although as Sue mentioned Danny has given a great review on Hotel Womb. I was lucky enough to attend both nights.I have never been to Tilleys before and was blown away at the intimacy of it. The first night I was able to secure a booth close to the front but believe me anywhere you sat was a good possie. The guys from the band plus their families just seemed to intermingle with everyone, very approachable and in such a good mood, everyone just seemed so happy to be there...I wont bore you with my close encounters but it was very laid back. The setlist was very similar to the gigs at the Basement although they didnt play all songs from the new album and then do older stuff. They were very chatty between songs, lots of banter and druggy references.Stand outs for me were Myrhh and Constant in Opal but hey I could have picked many from the air. 2nd night saw a lot more people and not quite so much interaction but nevertheless it was still great(what Church gig isnt) but probably they played tighter this night.A wonderful encore of MATS was probably the only difference in the set list.Everyone was extremely receptive. two very special nights, thanks to those all those new people I met and to the ones i've met before and a big thank you to the band....they are just so special and their music is beautiful Annie
