From: FullartonR@aol.com Subject: The Church in the German press Date: 2/15/2002 5:25:03 AM To: seance@lists.no-fi.com Just got back from a trip to Hamburg this week, and now the proud owner of tix for the March 19th show at Logo (only 10 ?uro - approx. $9). Any other seancers going to this one ? Also spotted a good supply of AENT in the main music stores in downtown Hamburg (Saturn had 11 copies, alongside a similar qty of Starfish). As usual I had a quick flick through the German music press at the airport newstand (which stocks a wide variety) and I noticed Church features in two monthlies. Not having a wonderful handle of the German language I only tend to buy these mags if there's a CD attached to them, and as these did not I can only relate a brief summary. If any of the German seancers would like to translate these articles for us, then I'm sure we'd all be grateful. To point you in the right direction :- Zillo - 2 pager in colour using one of those new "awful" promo photos. The title translates as Steve Kilbey saying something like "I want to become Leonard Cohen" Sonic Seducer - half pager in b/w (similar photo, but distorted). The title translated as "Where is my eyeliner?" Interesting point to note is that both of these 2 mags are aimed at the goth/indusutrial music scene (there are about 5 such publications in Germany). I checked the other 3, and also the more mainstream mags as well, but this was all I could find, which begs a number of questions:- did CV only target these types of publications in Germany ? or did the mainstream mags pass on covering them, considering them too goth ? Whatever the reality is, it seems the Church are still embraced by certain countries as a goth band, and it seems CV allow them to be marketed as such as long as the band gets the coverage. I'll let you all have my demographic poll of the Logo audience's degrees of gothness after the March 19th show !! Talk soon, Rick F
