At one time there were a few critics that had clout, can you say Lester Bangs? Dave Marsh.. the Ira guy from Trouser Press even Mikal Gilmore, you read their reviews because they knew their shit and they had a grounding in social history, blues, culture-they brought something to the table-THEY TOLD YOU WHY SOMETHING WAS -or Was NOT important, ground-breaking GODHEAD- you can bet if Big Star was released next Tuesday-it would be ignored.. very little is praised nowadays unless it is promoted.. watch Ryan Adams during the month of March and you will see a promotion machine firing up to make this guy "sellable". I am really glad some 'unconverted' are hearing AENT - I am trying like heck to get KCRW here to play Radiance and also still pushing for a Borders show, I love HOB to death still after what? 3 years.. Another Earth, for example took a long while to a grow on me and it is simply brilliant. Tranquility live was so unbelievably great-it truly takes awhile to make an educated opinion..their should be a disclaimer on AENT that says, ("CAUTION this product may grow on you") one artist that comes to mind is Mark Rothko-you cannot experience his art on a printed page OR on a computer screen -NO it is a PERSONAL experience and has to be witnessed. btw way off topic.. they just made a "pavlova' dessert on TV it looks amazing what the heck does it taste like? ^jax with a middle 8 filled with pavlova
