Middle eights can change a good song into a great
song.  "It's Getting Better All the Time"  by the
Beatles is a good example.  Would the song be as good
without the middle eight of,
"I used to be cruel to my woman
I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she
loved."  etc.

The guitar break in Hotel Womb is a really good middle
eight. Makes the song the best one on Starfish, IMO.
