From: Kevin J. Bonham, sleepycat@eudoramail.com Subject: AENT: is it rocky enough? Date: 2/8/2002 10:19:10 PM To: seance@lists.no-fi.com Some people have said that if they have any trouble with AENT it's the lack of rockers on it. I thought I'd compare the different albums to see which ones were actually the rockiest. I did this by the highly atificial and unchurchy method of allocating 1 point for a song that was more or less rocking, 0 points for a song that wasn't really rocking at all, and half a point for a dubious case (eg a song that's half rocking half quiet, or a song that's in between all the way through). This is very subjective, but to give an example - GAF: I scored 1 point for Metropolis, Terra Nova Cain, Transient, You're Still Beautiful, Essence and Grind, half a point for Pharoah and Fading Away, no points for the rest. Then for each one I divided the pointscore by the number of songs to get a percentage. Using this system the albums which seemed the rockiest were OSAH, Remote Luxury/Persia and Heyday, which were all over 70%. The rest including AENT were all somewhere between 40 and 60. AENT: 1 point for Numbers and Chromium. Half point for Song for the Asking, Awful Ache (for the breaks - OK they're short but they're extremely heavy), Seen It Coming, Reprieve and Night Friends. 4.5/10 = 45% which puts it down the lower end of the rocker scale in the career of the Church. Still I don't think it is really so off-balance that it matters.
