God help us if we all agreed - I couldn't stand it if we all gushed over every single song they put out, though I know Im definitely guilty sometimes of over-enthusiasm. First impressions usually change too, I thought I'd adore 'Seen It Coming' to death but a few listens of the album as a whole and its not a favorite anymore. 'After Everything' and 'Song For The Asking' (that song DOES play in your head a lot!) have moved pole positions, while 'The Awful Ache' is still on top. I think when listeners say the album is 'muddy', they are referring to a lack of crystal clearness that some of us love in other productions? There is a distinct difference when you compare some of it to (for example, the 'Dabble' album or the Karmic Hit stuff). I like to hear my instruments and vocals clearly. I dont have a 'trained' ear...its rather just a matter of personal taste ....or old age :)) Still, this is the style and the sound of The Church now and the live performances will prove that they have just got better and better. I would find it very difficult now to place my favorite albums in order from my top 5 of BC/Heyday/AENT/HOB and P=A. Sue Alternative email - spiritmarch@hotmail.com
