Maybe the people making these kinds of remarks have a crappy stereo or something or just haven't listened to it enough times. The first few times I heard it a lot of the tracks seemed like a pretty big mess production-wise, but now I'm starting to hear all the little treasures Tim hid in some of the songs. And it really works...it's like the best elements of the Church as well as people like My Bloody Valentine and Radiohead. In addition, I don't think you can even compare this album to the older stuff like BC. In my opinion The Church seem to have given up that old classic rock/psychedelic sound altogether, although that's not at all a bad thing. It's obvious to me, anyway, that they have really settled into a new sound and probably won't be making any more albums that sound like Starfish. >> ABSOLUTELY! Like I said yesterday....The Church are now on another astral plane. They have finally perfected what they had started with on Hologram Of Baal. A dense, swirling, emotional, detailed soundscape. Nobody can touch them at what they do. And these are SONGS! Richly melodic songs. Not just guys playing around with their effects. Radiohead have tried to mine the same territory but just can't achieve the warmth and "triumphant sadness". Others just sound too cool and detached. AENT has brought it all home for me. They are the best band on this friggin' planet. MB
