From: Sue C, kascam@bigpond.com Subject: AENT Date: 2/7/2002 2:13:57 AM To: markp@mitchworldusa.net seance@lists.no-fi.com Thanks Mark...wow, you certainly say what's on ya mind :) I've got my AENT now... .have had to absorb it on my pc as the stereo cd player has thrown in the towel.. but Im loving it - because of this, its a bit hard to really judge on the mixing/production...to me it sounds a little too 'heavy' rather than muddled. Dont usually analyze other band's music too much, but here goes nothing. NUMBERS - a great opener for the album, an uptempo lead in to what follows. It sounds a little different to the single version. As someone mentioned, it does remind me of 'Ripple' too, at the beginning. AFTER EVERYTHING - Cant believe it's taken this long till I finally got to hear this song. This is a great song except Steve's voice seems a bit heavy to me. Beautiful music - very reminiscent of their early sounds. I would actually like to hear Marty sing this song too and I feel it could do with some backup vocals! THE AWFUL ACHE - This is my favorite song of all, as soon as he says Esmeralda..what's wrong with songs about damaged girls anyway?! In this song, I get shivers down my spine as soon as Steve starts singing...this is the SK I love. The melody is just beautiful. He must've been in a melancholy mood when he sat at the piano to write this one. Dont we all know about that 'awful ache' :) SONG FOR THE ASKING - Strangely I really love the chorus in this song. CHROMIUM - ooh, the lead in guitar...its so CHURCHY :)) This is a good song and you cant imagine Steve singing this one rather than Marty. Cant understand why it was going to be a single though?! RADIANCE - lovely.... this one could've been on HOB. Love it when he goes into 'and the children ran" and then that lovely delicate guitar. REPRIEVE - when I first heard this, I thought I was listening to Russell singing! There's bits of this I really like esp.when it goes into the instrumental side...but its nothing to rave about. NIGHT FRIENDS - this song was amazing 'live' - the kind of song to mellow out to surrounded in a haze of smoke but when I first heard it on the album I was very disappointed (I'll be very interested to hear if others change their opinion on hearing it played live) Not saying that I dont like it at all, just cant believe it's the same song! It is improving the more I listen again, but overall still disappointed. SEEN IT COMING - I loved the first version i heard (the monitor mix??) - I've adored this song since I first heard it, but Steve's voice and the guitar dont soar out at me like they did before...I think I'll copy the first version to a cdr....this version needs more volume...it's still a classic though and still makes my hair stand on end. They could've skipped the ending. INVISIBLE - I was expecting to not like this song, but I actually like it a real lot. Thought Steve was going to launch into 'Providence' though :) Reading back it sounds a bit like Im not happy with this album, and that's what happens when you try and analyze or give a more detailed opinion...but I ADORE it.. the gems on it make it well worth the effort and those gems will be played to death. I agree with everyone who said they should've included 'Undo' and 'Oxydental'...but then again, I thought they should have put 'Anyway' on HOB as that's one of my favourite Church tunes (in the same vein as another favourite 'Roman') and which always makes me wonder what the left over tunes are like!
