It is for sure their most consistent album since Starfish ,all the tracks are good but none (except for Numbers ,which is an updated vintage Church track) keep me wanting to press that repeat button. I have no problem with the band taking a more laid back/slow approach (my favourite music is sad core...anyway),but in the process the band seem to have lost some spark and menace .(which is one of the bands high points). There are moments in songs that leave me wanting. For Example the intro/middle section totally ruin what would have been a perfect Awful Ache. That guitar/cellos gives me the impression the songs is going to burst into some heavy metal track. Night Friends begins superbly then that guitar ala Wish You Were Here comes me and makes me want to scream NO NO NO !!!!!!! Then again i'm no expert and what I don't like may be your favorite pieces afterall. Song fo the Asking is in my opinion the best track on the album (after numbers) .....the rest are all 6/7's. I seem to be the only one here and on Hotelwomb not too be too excited about After Everything. (the song) It flirts with being a wee bit too mor in my opinion. Maybe i need more time and in a couple of weeks will totally regret posting this. Still looking foward to hearing the mentioned songs in London in 3 weeks though. ciao jean
