My friends and I have recorded over 300 80's and late 70's albums to CD-R that are still unavailable on CD, and we scan in all the covers (at least the fronts). To avoid the line problem, you can sometimes adjust the Brightness/Contrast/Intensity of one half to make the line virtually unnoticeable. And then there's always the touch-up on any price stickers or bad scuff marks. But, hey, vinyl still figures largely in my music collection ... I'm just converting it to CD-R.
