Same thing you and I are thinkin' methinks, Simon! ;-) Hey ... I got this bud that has this band that I just wrote up somewot of a lil review for his band's first offering. He's a hard dude to get along with but I love him and he's a good guy when you break on through. It would absolutely make his day if y'all would check out his band's little record(ten bucks!!!)or visit Neidermeyer's page at mp3.com where y'all can download some FINE FREE tunes! Thanks as always for yr neverending indulgence! later ...m http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/314/neidermeyer.html NEIDERMEYER - No, not the elitist scumbag, Nazi, fratboy that eventually gets his comeuppance in Animal House, I'm talking 'bout the BAND, Neidermeyer. A damn fine little rock combo hailing from the Winston- Salem sector of North Carolina and fronted by none other than our own Michael (DON'T CALL ME MIKE!)Slawter. To say "For Those About To Pop" is one of the finest poppy/rocky/hard to pigeonhole records --'cause it's SO chock fulla' the utmost in influence-- this boy has heard in a long time ... is ... well ... really easy to say indeed. 'Cause it is! This album sounds more like something spewing outta' a FAR more accomplished act than the Neidermeyer boys whom have been playing together for what ... about a year. What a damn fine burst of the best in well written, extremely well played guitar based, Southern tinged pop all tied up in a neat lil' 27 minute package with a self produced sheen to it that's just downright spot on. I don't wanna mention any names but in a perfect world Neidermeyer should be --and I'm thinking shall be-- as big as the biggest! This is damn fine shit here! The band includes Paisley Popper/Mitch/Ledz Club charter member Michael Slawter on guits and vocals, Arthur Gormley on guits and vocals, Chris Myers on bass and vocals and Scot Mejan on drums and theramin. From the opening chords of "I Feel Fine" you just know that you have been bitten quite righteously flush on the ass by what's gonna be one corker of a pop blast. Guitars jangle and burn all at the same time, great "I feel fine..." ad infinitum harmonies, a REAL busy rhythm that just chugs along without missing a single beat, intensely well played, yet never overplayed guitar solos, just perfect, absolutely perfectly crafted pop! Great opener, right outta the blocks ..."...Monday's okay and Tuesday's okay, Wednesday's okay, now Thursday GET AWAY!" Rare Violet has some nice hooky production trickery to it but never strays into that "full of one's self" territory. "Drop Any Anchor", "Let's Pretend" and "Facing The Facts" with it's great theramin opening all rock as hard as they tug at the heartstrings ... as I said, they not only wear their influences on their sleeves, they pin their hearts there too, some poignant lyrics w/in these toons! "(In A) Modern Day" is the TRUE standout on this rekkid though! The jangle cascades forth and the pathos begins yet again ... I LOVE THIS STUFF ... "we're two of a kind, just grown apart" ...yeah! Again, the Southern aspect of that "get down" mentality grabs you around the middle eight when the guitar solos kick in. "(In A) Modern Day" is a modern day classic song! At least it's gonna be ... for me anyway! "Everyday News" conjures up a kinda' "My Aim Is True" Costello-esque groove ... influence and all "neo classic charms!" "One Step Beyond" is a minute and half or so barn burner, elpee closer is "Needle Skips", yet another cerebral poptoon with a hook notwithstanding ;-) ;-) and a "oh woh woh woh" chorus that is just SO infectious ... then there's that bloody guitar, those guitars that are just so tonal and tasty and all all over the damned place and before you know it ... it ends ... just ends, just like that ... out! www.neidertunes.com.
