+ ? I’ve heard or read that the Japanese take Godzilla–”Godzira” to them–very seriously. If you make jokes about Godzilla or allude to the considerable comic element of the genre, you will be upbraided severely. Apparently Godzilla is an acceptable emblem of national pride, as the Emperor and the Rising Sun flag were before militarism was extinguished by Douglas MacArthur.
